Van Wyk to Speak at AIA Health Facilities Conference

Kenric Van Wyk, President and Principal Acoustical Engineer at Acoustics By Design, Inc., will present a lecture on “The Perfect Storm: Why Acoustics Suddenly Matter in Healthcare Design” at the 42nd Annual AIA Health Facilities Planning Seminar in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The talk will be given at 3:45pm on Thursday, April 2nd, 2009, at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and will cover a wide range of topics including: LEED for Healthcare, Press Ganey Acoustical Scores, Acoustical Case Studies in Michigan Hospitals, and AIA Interim Sound and Vibration Guidelines for Healthcare Facilities. Van Wyk is one of the very first LEED Accredited Professional Acoustical Engineers in the United States, and as such, is uniquely poised to offer consultation on LEED for Healthcare and green building practices in architectural acoustics, noise isolation, and vibration control. In addition, Van Wyk has consulted on many projects where HIPAA and speech privacy were a foremost concern. His research with sound masking systems and interior room noise isolation is paving the way toward higher standards in patient care and health facility design. Van Wyk is known for his ability to put flesh on the facts and explain complex acoustic principals in layman’s terms. His presentation style connects the science of acoustics with the human experience, and that’s where healthcare professionals see the most benefit.
