Acoustics By Design, Inc., recently hired Peter C. Laux, PhD, as Chief Scientist and Senior Consultant for its Grand Rapids, Michigan, office. Previously with Johnson Controls & Prince Corporation in Holland, Michigan, Laux has over twenty-five years of experience in the acoustics, noise, and vibration fields. While at Johnson Controls, Laux grew their small acoustics capability into a world class acoustical integration team, complete with an acoustics research lab dedicated to the fields of noise control, vibration control, and product sound quality. more...

It seems like everyone is
talking about decibels these days: “5 dB of this” and “3 dB of that.” As acoustical consultants, we hear people using these metrics and often wonder to
ourselves, “Do they really know what a decibel is?” Occasionally, someone is brave enough to ask the more important question, “Just how much is a decibel?” The
